Sus principales destinos son Punta Cana, Jamaica, Cuba y Puerto Rico. Ya sea para pasar unos d\u00edas en un <strong>resort, all inclusive o un crucero<\/strong>, es un lugar de gran cultura y naturaleza. \u00bfPero que es el Caribe y cual es el origen de su nombre?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Caribe es esa regi\u00f3n conformada por el <strong><em>Mar Caribe<\/em><\/strong>, es decir, sus aguas, las islas y las costas continentales aleda\u00f1as. Seg\u00fan la mayor\u00eda de los cart\u00f3grafos, el mar Caribe es aquel que se encuentra rodeado por las islas de Cuba, La Espa\u00f1ola (donde se encuentra Hait\u00ed y Rep\u00fablica Dominicana) y las Antillas Menores al norte y este; y el continente al oeste y sur. Seg\u00fan Am\u00e9rico Vespucio, el t\u00e9rmino no era del nombre de la etnia, sino que significa \u201chombre sabio\u201d, forma en que las tribus llamaron a los europeos. Los Caribes habitaban principalmente el norte de Venezuela y las islas pr\u00f3ximas a la costa. Eran la uni\u00f3n de varias tribus familiares, no utilizaban ropajes y pintaban sus cuerpos y rostros con s\u00edmbolos del clan familiar al cual pertenec\u00edan. Seg\u00fan testimonios europeos, los Caribes com\u00edan las carnes de sus enemigos luego de las peleas con otras etnias, creando a partir de ellos el t\u00e9rmino de <strong><em>\u201ccanibalismo\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">El Caribe recibe este nombre desde la llegada de los europeos, \u00e9poca en que a las islas se les daban el nombre dado por los vocablos nativos. Por ejemplo Cuba, que seg\u00fan Col\u00f3n era llamada \u201ccubao\u201d por los nativos. Pero no siempre fue llamada la regi\u00f3n caribe\u00f1a de esta manera por los espa\u00f1oles. Ellos <strong>tambi\u00e9n conocer\u00e1n a la regi\u00f3n con <em>el nombre de Antillas<\/em><\/strong>, que deriva de una isla m\u00edtica llamada Antilia, una isla que se cre\u00eda era un resabio de la Atl\u00e1ntida y se localizaba cerca del \u201cfin del mundo\u201d. Los primeros cartogr\u00e1ficos supon\u00edan que alguna de estas islas ser\u00eda esa isla mitol\u00f3gica. Pero como en otros idiomas se sigui\u00f3 llamando Caribe o sus deformaciones ling\u00fc\u00edsticas, el mar recibi\u00f3 dicho nombre de manera definitiva para los espa\u00f1oles hacia el siglo XVII.
